When Dawn Begins to Colour the Sky

There is a moment before sunrise when the landscape is still in darkness, but the sky begins to reveal what is coming.

Photographed from Gourock, looking east along the River Clyde towards Glasgow, When Dawn Begins to Colour the Sky captures that fleeting transition as bands of deep orange, amber and red spread across the horizon.

Below, the Clyde remains cool and subdued, its channels and sandbanks catching fragments of the emerging colour while navigation buoys punctuate the still water. The contrast between the dark river and the intense light above gives the image an almost painterly quality.

A quiet moment on the Clyde, just before a new day begins.

Fine Art Print

Printed to order on premium fine art paper, chosen for its ability to reproduce the rich colour, tonal depth and subtle detail of the original photograph. The archival-quality finish gives the image a beautifully tactile, gallery-quality appearance while retaining the depth of the darker tones and the extraordinary warmth of the pre-dawn sky.

Available in a range of sizes and supplied unframed, allowing you to choose a frame that suits your own space.

How to Choose Your Size

  • Measure your wall space first — leave at least 10–15 cm of wall visible around the print for a balanced look.
  • Viewing distance matters — larger prints (A1, A0) look best when viewed from 2–3 metres away.
  • Go bigger than you think — prints often look smaller on a wall than they do in your hands. When in doubt, size up.
  • Gallery walls — mix A5 and A4 prints around a central A3 or A2 for a curated look.
